In Ross-on-wye, the heart of Herefordshire, we recently completed a remarkable swimming pond project that showcases the perfect blend of nature and human ingenuity. This bespoke aquatic haven not only fulfils our clients’ unique requirements but also stands as a testament to what’s possible when imagination meets expertise.
The Vision
Our journey began when we were approached by clients who had a specific dream: a 25-meter-long swim lane, complete with tumble-turn walls, and a summerhouse deck. Despite being told by another company that their vision wasn’t feasible, we embraced the challenge. Our philosophy? “No problem” – a motto that has guided us through numerous successful projects.
The Design
The final design resulted in an impressive 30×20 meter swimming pond, seamlessly integrating with the existing landscape. Key features include:
- A 25-meter swim lane for serious swimmers
- Tumble-turn walls for an authentic lap-swimming experience
- A summerhouse deck for relaxation and entertainment
- Stepping stones leading to a large dive stone, sourced from Mid-Wales Stone near Welshpool
Overcoming Challenges
Every project has its hurdles, and this one was no exception. The typically crumbly Herefordshire soil turned into a muddy challenge when unexpected rain arrived. However, our experienced team persevered, transforming what could have been a setback into a triumph of engineering and determination.
Eco-Friendly Features
At the heart of this swimming pond is its natural filtration system. We used:
- EPDM PondGard membrane for lining, supplied by Gordon Low Products
- A carefully designed regeneration zone for natural water purification
- Specially selected aquatic plants from Anglo Aquatics for optimal water quality
- Three low-voltage pumps for energy-efficient circulation
The Finishing Touches
To complete the project, we added:
- A mix of lawn and wildflower seeds to blend the pond with its surroundings
- 110m² of expertly laid Indian sandstone patio, wrapping around the house and courtyard
- Integrated drainage and power supply systems for seamless functionality
Looking Ahead
As with all our projects, we look forward to supporting our clients as they learn to live with and nurture their new aquatic ecosystem. We’re excited to see how this swimming pond matures and flourishes in the coming years, providing a sustainable, beautiful, and functional addition to our clients’ home.
Conclusion
This Herefordshire swimming pond project exemplifies what’s possible when innovative design meets expert execution. It stands as a prime example of how natural swimming solutions can be tailored to meet specific needs while harmonising with the surrounding environment.
Whether you’re dreaming of a lap pool, a natural oasis, or something in between, remember – with the right expertise, your vision can become a reality. Let nature inspire your next aquatic adventure.
