Swimming ponds & Lakes, while boasting natural filtration, do require some maintenance to keep the water clean and the ecosystem balanced. Here's a breakdown of what you, the client, can handle, and what tasks are best left to a professional service:
Customer Maintenance:
- Skimming: This is a regular chore, similar to a pool. You’ll need to skim leaves, debris, and insects off the water surface to prevent them from decaying and mucking up the pond. Nets and skimmers are readily available at pond supply stores or from us at Turtle. If you live in a high-drop area, why not install a seasonal floating lake skimmer?
- Plant care: The aquatic plants in your swimming pond play a crucial role in filtration. Regular maintenance includes trimming overgrown plants, removing dead foliage, and occasionally dividing plants that get too large.
- Top-up water: During hot, dry periods, your pond may lose water through evaporation. Top it up with fresh water to maintain a constant level.
Professional Service:
- Deep cleaning: Once or twice a year, we can perform a deep clean of your pond. This may involve removing built-up sludge from the bottom, cleaning the filtration system (if you have one), and ensuring proper water circulation.
- System maintenance: Some swimming ponds have more complex filtration systems with pumps and skimmers. We can maintain these systems, ensuring optimal performance and preventing breakdowns.
- Winterisation: In colder climates, we can help you winterise your swimming pond to protect it from freezing temperatures. This may involve shutting down pumps, and ensuring proper water depth.
