Failand Swimming Pond
Whilst we have been involved with many swimming ponds over the years, we’ve never been asked to build one from scratch, until now!
In late 2022, our clients, based in Failand near Bristol, had a patch of ground which was originally a glade of Leylandii. Removed, they presented an opportunity to re-develop this part of the garden. The tree surgeons had left a mountain of waste for processing, which was our start point.
The hidden complication with this project was rock. No sooner than making the first scrape, we found rock, which made digging the hole a little harder, but not insurmountable, adding only a week to our timeline.
Working with the clients and to an initial design, the project grew, adapted and embraced tweaks or changes where they were beneficial, creating the wonderful swimming pond we have today. Elevate (Firestone) EPDM PondGard liner was used and bespoke welded on site to contain the water for a lifetime.
She’s now full and has the initial tranche of autumn-range aquatic plants now planted, and the grass seed covers the soil-topped bunds, completely changing the aspect of this part of the garden. The deck is to be completed with associated sleeper work, Spring ’23 planting to be added and, as time permits, a shepherd hut and potential bbq patio will also make their appearances.
We look forward to these return visits and helping the clients as they learn how to live with their new investment. A wonderful project with incredible clients – we hope this project matures and blooms beautifully over the coming years.
Revisited gallery pictures from June ’23. Following the recent spells of really hot sunshine and thunderstorms, this pond is crystal clear to the floor! Looks amazing.
